QIC Submits Testimony to Senate Commerce Committee for Hearing on Emerging Compute Technologies

The Quantum Industry Coalition submitted testimony to the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee’s September 29th hearing: “Securing U.S. Leadership in Emerging Compute Technologies.” The hearing highlighted the importance of three key technology areas in the recently passed CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, including quantum information science.

QIC’s submitted testimony can be found in full here. The testimony reviewed basic concepts of quantum computing, current and near-term use cases, and QIC’s recommendations for the Committee’s upcoming National Quantum Initiative reauthorization bill. The recommendations included:

  • Foster commercialization;

  • Advance quantum research and development;

  • Encourage a full stack approach;

  • Enable agencies to purchase quantum computers;

  • Promote technology neutrality;

  • Develop the quantum workforce;

  • Promote resilient, domestic supply chains;

  • Provide access to quantum infrastructure;

  • Promote quantum networking;

  • Coordinate with national security R&D;

  • Enhance cooperation with allies;

  • Ensure continued leadership on international standards;

  • Modernize export controls; and

  • Promoted helpful immigration while limited IP loss.
